Taking an extra Level 3 or Level 4 course by eleventh grade improved PSSA scores modestly (roughly in the neighborhood of .25 standard deviations). Taking an extra Level 4 course improved SAT math scores by roughly .5 standard deviations. The two schools had differing paths by which students "on the cusp" of taking or not-taking a Level 4 course were able to complete the course.
